Following its tradition of launching limited-edition versions of its existing offerings for the festive season, Volkswagen will introduce the limited-run Edge Trail Edition of the Taigun GT. This cosmetically enhanced variant with added styling elements will be based on the top-spec GT trim of the SUV.

As the name suggests, the Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition will have a rugged appearance with additional exterior features, such as functional roof rails, a blacked-out theme for the 17-inch alloy wheels, and body graphics on the rear doors, fenders, and C-pillars. The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition will be available in only two color options – Deep Black Pearl and Carbon Steel.

Inside the cabin, the Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition will stand out from the standard version of the Taigun GT with added features like black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitching, “Trail” badges on the headrests, red-colored ambient lighting, and aluminum pedals. In terms of features, the Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition will retain the equipment list of the Taigun GT, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charger, hill start assist, auto headlamps, electrically adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors, a reverse camera, and front fog lamps.

The Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition will be exclusively available with the 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, offering both 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission options. Equipped with cylinder deactivation technology, this turbocharged engine generates 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque.

Trail Edition gets more accessories

While Volkswagen aims to present the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition as a refreshing update, it is essentially an accessorized version of the Taigun GT. The Taigun is also offered with a more feature-rich GT+ variant, which includes additional features like a 7-inch full-TFT instrument console, all-LED headlamps, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a push start-stop button. These features will not be available in the new Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition.

Since the implementation of the BS6 phase-II emission norms, Volkswagen has heavily relied on the Taigun and Virtus for its presence in India, as part of the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 strategy. The carmaker also includes the more premium Tiguan SUV in its Indian lineup. Currently, Volkswagen has no plans to introduce a new model in India and will continue to offer limited-edition versions of the Taigun and Virtus to maintain its momentum.
