According to the space agency, the maiden Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1) will demonstrate the Crew Escape System (CES) performance.
What is Gaganyaan mission?
• The Gaganyaan mission’s primary goal is to launch humans into space, placing them in a Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of 400 kilometres for a three-day mission, with a safe return to Earth scheduled for 2025.
• The crew for the Gaganyaan mission will be transported to the designated orbit using an LVM3 rocket. This rocket consists of various stages, including solid, liquid, and cryogenic propulsion systems.
What ISRO aims to gain from the abort demo test?
• The abort demonstration test serves the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of the crew escape system of the Gaganyaan mission. This system is designed to ensure the safe return of astronauts in the event of an emergency during the actual crew mission launch, which is slated for 2025.
