‘Premalu’ actor Mamitha Baiju was initially a part of director Bala’s upcoming film ‘Vanangaan’. In a recent interview with a Malayalam publication, the actor said that she had opted out of the film. She also revealed that director Bala hit her during the film’s shooting. Earlier, actor Suriya was roped in as the hero. However, he opted out of the film due to creative differences with director Bala. Actor Arun Vijay was later signed on as the replacement for actor Suriya.
Speaking about her experience of shooting for ‘Vanangaan’, actor Mamitha Baiju said, “There is a dance in the film called ‘Villadicha Maatan’. I was wondering if I was doing this dance from the beginning [for a scene] or if it is depicted as she is attempting it for the first time.”
Baiju said that she was learning to play the instrument, which also involves singing while playing the drum. She said, “He [director Bala] asked me to observe a woman and then instructed me to perform. I wasn’t ready initially, which made me nervous. I learnt it in three takes. He had also said that he would keep scolding and asked her not to take it seriously. ” The actor said that she was scolded by him multiple times.
Baiju also revealed that director Bala hit him during the shooting. When the anchor asked what actor Suriya said, Baiju said, “Suriya sir knows it already. They share a great rapport. We are the new ones in it.”
On December 22, director Bala shared a statement announcing that Suriya is no more a part of ‘Vanangaan’. In his statement, Bala said that he made changes to the story which may not do justice to actor Suriya’s image.
